RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Acute pain is an important complaint reported by trauma victims, however, the relationship between it and other types of discomfort, such as discomfort caused by cold, discomfort caused by immobilization, and psychological distress such as fear, anxiety, and sadness is limitedly studied and documented. AIM: To assess the relationship between acute trauma pain and other types of suffering in pre-hospital trauma victims. METHODS: This is a prospective multicentre cohort study conducted in Immediate Life Support Ambulances in Portugal. All adult trauma victims with a mechanism of blunt and penetrating injuries, falls, road accidents and explosions, were included. RESULTS: 605 trauma victims were included, mainly male, with a mean age of 53.4 years. Before the intervention of the rescue teams, 90.5 % of the victims reported some level of pain, 39.0 % reported discomfort caused by cold, while 15.7 % felt fear, 8.4 % sadness, 49.8 % anxiety and 4.5 % apathy. Victims with high discomfort caused by cold tend to have higher pain levels. Significantly higher pain intensity were observed in victims with fear and anxiety. Univariate and multivariate analysis indicates that immobilization is associated with increased pain levels. CONCLUSIONS: There is a statistically significant relationship between acute trauma pain, anxiety, fear, cold and immobilization.

RESUMO

Background: With the growth of digital nursing, several studies have focused on recording patients' views on remote care, or specialised nurse staffing aspects. This is the first international survey on telenursing focused exclusively on clinical nurses that analyses the dimensions of usefulness, acceptability, and appropriateness of telenursing from the staff point of view. Methods: A previously validated structured questionnaire including demographic variables, 18 responses with a Likert-5 scale, three dichotomous questions, and one overall percentual estimation of holistic nursing care susceptible to being undertaken by telenursing, was administered (from 1 September to 30 November 2022) to 225 clinical and community nurses from three selected EU countries. Data analysis: descriptive data, classical and Rasch testing. Results: The results show adequacy of the model for measurement of the domains of usefulness, acceptability, and appropriateness of telenursing (overall Cronbach's alpha 0.945, Kaiser-Meyer-Olkin 0.952 and Bartlett's p < 0.001). Answers in favour of telenursing ranked 4 out of 5 in Likert scale, both globally and by the three domains. Rasch: reliability coefficient 0.94, Warm's main weighted likelihood estimate reliability 0.95. In the ANOVA analysis, the results for Portugal were significantly higher than those for Spain and Poland, both overall and for each of the dimensions. Respondents with bachelor's, master's and doctoral degrees score significantly higher than those with certificates or diplomas. Multiple regression did not yield additional data of interest. Conclusions: The tested model proved to be valid, but although the majority of nurses are in favour of telenursing, given the nature of the care, which is mainly face-to-face, according to the respondents, the chances of carrying out their activities by telenursing is only 35.3%. The survey provides useful information on what can be expected from the implementation of telenursing and the questionnaire proves to be a useful tool to be applied in other countries.

RESUMO

Background: In a phase of development as complex as adolescence, the surgical experience is a great challenge. While there is some knowledge about manifestations of anxiety in children, less is known about manifestations of anxiety in adolescents. Likewise, the knowledge about adolescents needs for control of anxiety in the perioperative period is missing. Aims: To synthesize the existing research on the manifestations of anxiety in adolescents in the perioperative period and to identify the adolescents needs for control of anxiety in the perioperative period. Methods: An integrative review was conducted using a literature search in five different health databases. Only original studies related to the study topic were included. A six-step method was used to develop the revision and to analyze the results. Results: Of the 251 articles initially selected, only five met the inclusion criteria. A total of 114 adolescents from five different countries were represented. The manifes-tations of anxiety were grouped in psychological, social and physical. These manifes-tations were mostly related with fear of surgery, how would they deal with pain, body image change, anxiety itself and the separation from their friends. The needs were 'to be informed' and 'to be involved in the decisions about their own care process'. Conclusions: The adolescents have manifestations of anxiety and specific needs to deal with perioperative anxiety, which need to be taken into account in the planning of perioperative care. Further research is needed to promote the development of an evidence-based program tailored to answer to the adolescent's needs and to minimize their manifestations of anxiety in the perioperative period

RESUMO

In today's societies, health care is increasingly culturally diverse due to the increasing migratory processes of the population and nurses. Therefore, it is necessary to train nurses to provide culturally competent care. Learning objects are didactic, multimedia, interactive and challenging materials that constitute relevant resources for the teaching-learning processes that go beyond the classroom. In many countries, in nursing education, they are still an innovative way of learning. The study was developed as part of the international project Developing Multimedia Learning for Cross-Cultural Collaboration and Competence in Nursing - TransCoCon, (ERASMUS + Program, contract: 2017-1-UK01-KA203-36612) and aimed to build and validate a learning object that supports the learning of transcultural competences, necessary in nursing care. The learning object developed is subordinated to the theme of admission of a client in a hospital. For its development, the following steps were followed: choice of content; analyze; conceptual map; navigational architecture; storyboard; Implementation; documentation of use; use, evaluation and maintenance. As a result of the work developed, we obtained the learning object "Admission to hospital" and its Portuguese version "Acolhimento do Cliente num Hospital". Both versions include a set of written supportive material for cross-cultural nursing care in hospital and illustrative videos of cross-cultural communication skills. The adopted methodology proved to be effective for the construction of an attractive, interactive and meaningful learning object for nursing students, nurses and nursing teachers

RESUMO

Introduction: Based on the inherent benchmark of mentoring and perceptoring, and conscious of the challenge of reducing the estimated school dropout rate of 12% for the Polytechnic Institute of Viseu (IPV), the main aim of the project Su-pervision and Mentoring in Higher Education: Dynamics of Success (SuperES) is to promote the development of pedagogical supervision skills with focus on teacher - student dyads, and thus enhance the quality of teaching in the IPV. The direct beneficiaries are the IPV assistants, and subsequently the students, who will benefit from a pedagogical didactic literacy program (Cunha et al., 2017). Objective: To promote the pedagogical supervision skills of the IPV assistants, which can reduce failure and school dropouts. Methods: The sample will consist of approximately 210 assistants and 900 students. The methodology is based on an experimental research with two groups: the expe-rimental group, which will receive training, and the control group. To monitor the effectiveness of the program, a battery of questionnaires will be applied before and after its implementation. Results and discussion: Of the 17 activities executed, the evaluation of the pedagogi-cal supervision skills is highlighted. They are: (I) the construction/implementation/evaluation of the SuperES Program; (II) the construction of a computer platform/website - Didactics & School Supervision: Caixa Geral de Ajudas; (III) the creation of a tool, "Supervision +", used for the self-monitoring of pedagogical skills. Conclusions: The Super ES program integrates a research action that aims to implement/test training and research tools on the process of pedagogical supervision
